Burial Benefits

McNairy County Veterans Service Office · Selmer, Tennessee

Burial Benefits

The VA assists veterans, service members and dependents with burial expenses. An eligible person may be buried in a state or national cemetery with no cost for the plot, burial, or headstone. For burial in a private cemetery, eligible people can apply for benefits to help offset the cost.

National cemetery burial

No cost for the plot, the burial or the headstone. Eligibility can be confirmed in advance with a pre-need application.

Headstones, markers & medallions

The VA provides a headstone, medallion or marker for an eligible veteran’s grave on request. A funeral home or this office can arrange it.

Presidential Memorial Certificate

An engraved certificate signed by the current president, honouring the veteran’s service. Presented to next of kin at a national cemetery burial, or requested separately.

Tennessee state cemetery

Pre-registration is available through the Tennessee state veterans cemetery program.

Doing this ahead of time

Settling eligibility before it is needed spares the family doing it in the worst week of their lives. We will help you with the pre-need application.
